Cambria Hotel Case Study

THE CHALLENGE

The hotel market is competitive in a resort destination like Madeira Beach, Fla. As Cambria planned a new upscale property, Jacki Arena, owner and principal of Jacki Arena Interiors, determined the property should have an aesthetic reflecting the area’s history and culture – something that would distinguish it from the cookie-cutter approach to so many other hotels.

“We wanted to tell the story of Madeira Beach, with its rich history of pirates and sea turtles. The aesthetic reflects the Gulf Coast views and sea life you’ll find in the area,” Arena said.

Sector: Hotel
Client: Cambria Hotel
Location: Madeira Beach, FL
Designer: Jacki Arena, Jacki Arena Interiors
Area: 50,000ft2
Product: Opus collection, Ignea WP313

THE SOLUTION

Arena had a primary role in developing and designing the upscale Cambria brand prototype a few years prior. She was familiar with the style, durability and performance of Karndean LVT.

“We did a lot of research on LVT when creating the brand prototype. At that time, we just loved the depth of the material and texture, the durability and how much it captured the natural beauty of hardwood. We specified Karndean for the Cambria brand prototype, and it has been extremely successful, so we wanted to use it for this custom Cambria hotel, as well.”

One of the major factors in choosing flooring, Arena said, was finding a look to complement the custom color palette, with underwater-inspired bluish-greens and golds – colors that radiate the same warmth and energy one feels spending a day in the Gulf Coast sun.

“The flooring needed to be suitable for a beach destination, both aesthetically and from a performance standpoint. LVT is ideal when sand and water are variables – it’s durable, waterproof and easy to clean.”

Arena ultimately chose a wood-inspired design from Karndean’s Opus collection: Ignea WP313. A gluedown product with a 20 mil wear layer, Ignea brings a rustic feel to interiors, capturing the natural beauty of undulating grain, knots and splits.

THE RESULTS

Ignea was used in guestrooms, including bathrooms, and suites. Like all Karndean LVT, it’s a durable, low-maintenance flooring solution for high-traffic commercial spaces: No harsh, odorous chemicals are needed, saving both time and money related to the frequent cleaning that occurs in hotels. As a gluedown product, individual planks can be easily lifted and replaced if there’s damage.

From hotel ownership and operations to guest experience, the project was an all-around success, Arena said.

“The feedback from Cambria is the flooring is easy to clean and perfectly complements the overall aesthetic. It looks fabulous!”
