Karndean has refreshed its established LooseLay Longboard commercial vinyl flooring collection with new timber-inspired designs, enhanced surface finishes and a P3 slip rating across the range.

Marking 10 years since LooseLay Longboard launched in 2016, the refreshed collection expands design choice and specification opportunities for commercial environments, combining the character of timber with the practical performance of commercial luxury vinyl flooring.

Designed around a long 1.5-metre plank format and robust 4.5mm construction, LooseLay Longboard is suited to commercial projects where design impact, installation flexibility and long-term performance are key considerations.

Seven New Designs. Hundreds of Natural References. One Curated Collection.

The refreshed commercial flooring collection introduces seven new designs developed from carefully selected natural timber references, spanning distinctive species and landscapes from Australia and Europe.

Three of the new designs form the Ancient Australian Woods collection: Corinna Tasmanian Oak, West Tasmanian Oak and Balfour Blackwood.

In 2024, Karndean travelled to Tasmania’s rugged west coast to source remarkable reclaimed timbers from the region’s ancient temperate rainforests. Naturally preserved over time, these timbers reveal rich grain, tonal variation and distinctive imperfections, providing the inspiration for the three Australian Woods designs.

The collection also introduces Natural Deauville Oak and Drift Deauville Oak, inspired by the weathered character of French coastal timber, alongside Pale Swiss Elm and Dark Swiss Elm, influenced by timber species from Alpine regions of Switzerland and northern Italy.

The Oak designs draw on the natural character of real timber, with precision embossing developed from detailed 3D scans of natural oak to closely replicate its grain, knots and tonal variation.

Enhanced surface finishes, across the collection add further depth and definition, creating a more authentic timber look.

Commercial Flooring Performance

Alongside its expanded design offering, the refreshed collection brings practical performance features to support commercial specification.

A P3 slip rating across the range provides added flexibility for commercial environments, subject to project-specific slip resistance requirements.

Also featuring is Karndean’s SureFit technology, with a fibreglass-reinforced core that enhances dimensional stability and enables installation without expansion gaps or transition strips in most applications, when installed in accordance with Karndean’s installation instructions.

For projects where subfloor moisture is a consideration, LooseLay Longboard can be installed over suitable subfloors with moisture readings of up to 95% relative humidity (RH), when installed in accordance with Karndean’s installation instructions and used with the appropriate Karndean pressure-sensitive adhesive.

These features give designers and specifiers greater flexibility when selecting a flooring solution that meets the design, performance and installation requirements of a commercial project.

Karndean LooseLay Longboard can be installed over certain existing hard floor coverings, provided the surface is firm, smooth, level, dry and suitable for installation. Existing flooring and the subfloor must be assessed and prepared in accordance with Karndean’s installation instructions.

The format uses Karndean’s K-Wave® friction-grip backing and SureFit fibreglass reinforcement, allowing installation without expansion gaps or transition strips in most applications. Karndean Hi-Tack PSA may be required in specific areas or project conditions.

Karndean LooseLay Longboard achieves a R9-R10/P3 wet pendulum slip rating and an R10 oil-wet ramp classification across the refreshed collection.

The required slip resistance will depend on the application, environment, and project-specific risk assessment. Architects and specifiers should confirm that the selected flooring meets the applicable National Construction Code, Australian Standards and project requirements.

LooseLay Longboard is designed for a range of commercial interiors, subject to the demands and requirements of the application. Its robust 4.5mm construction, 0.55mm wear layer and K-Guard+® surface protection support long-term durability and ease of maintenance.

Individual planks can also be lifted and replaced if damaged, helping minimise disruption and simplify ongoing maintenance in operational commercial spaces. LooseLay Longboard is covered by a 15-year commercial warranty, subject to Karndean’s warranty terms and installation requirements.

When specifying commercial LVT flooring, architects and designers should look for current, independently verified certifications and documentation covering material health, indoor air quality and environmental performance.

Karndean LooseLay Longboard has achieved Global GreenTag™ GreenRate™ Level A and Best Practice PVC Version 2 certifications. Karndean also provides supporting technical and environmental documentation to help architects and designers make informed product selections.

Certification scope and validity should always be checked against the current product documentation when preparing a specification.

Key considerations include the interior’s design intent, expected traffic, slip resistance, subfloor condition, moisture readings, installation method, acoustics, maintenance requirements and supporting technical documentation.

LooseLay Longboard combines 1500mm timber-look planks with a 4.5mm construction, P3 slip rating, SureFit fibreglass reinforcement and K-Wave® friction-grip backing. It can also be installed over suitable concrete subfloors with moisture readings of up to 95% relative humidity when used with Karndean’s pressure sensitive and hard-set adhesives and installed in accordance with Karndean’s instructions.
